As a missionary's daughter having grown up in the Caribbean, Melinda has a passion for helping others. After years of hard work, she now has the privilege of having the time to give back to her native land.
After attending Liberty University with a concentration in Nursing and Business, Melinda married Timothy Wilson, OD. Together they started the Virginia Eye Clinic in Lynchburg, Virginia. Melinda became a licensed optician and administrator for the practice. On a missions trip to Aruba in 2009, Melinda saw the dire need for creative faith based children's programs. She hoped to create enthusiasm for young people towards the church and steer them from destructive options that are prevalent in the islands. Subsequently, Melinda started a faith-based non-profit organization named Humbly I Serve.
She first worked creating children’s programs throughout the Caribbean. Wanting to also give back with a humanitarian aid focus, Melinda started HIS Vision, a project of Humbly I Serve. Melinda was inspired to start the His Vision project after taking an exploratory trip to Haiti in 2010. Overwhelmed at the lack of medical assistance and little to no eye care, Melinda felt a burden for the country. HIS Vision will be opening an affordable and self-sustainable eye clinic in May 2014. Another goal of HIS Vision is to also teach eye care to future technicians, opticians and eye care physicians. HIS Vision will be implementing a refracting technician and optician program in 2015. Realizing that vision care needs were also lacking for some in her own community, Melinda created the Sponsor Sight Program in Lynchburg, VA .
The Sponsor Sight Program provides a free eye examination and a pair of glasses to underprivileged children in Lynchburg and surrounding areas. This program includes an educational initiative among the health care professionals, educators, and parents. The initiative's goal is to promote early identification of possible visual disorders.
As a mother of three, loving wife, founder of an international non-profit, and a business administrator; Melinda stays extremely busy. Her passion to help those less fortunate keeps her driven and excited to work hard. Her goal is to see both projects succeed in multiple countries, creating sustainable living worldwide. Melinda intends on further developing Humbly I Serve and work in many more countries to fight poverty by meeting physical and spiritual needs.
